Special Olympics

“Founded in 1979, Special Olympics at UCLA has served as one of the premiere organizations on campus for the intellectually disabled community. Throughout the past few decades, Special Olympics has brought intellectually disabled athletes from our own Los Angeles community to campus to create an inclusive environment that fosters both personal and athletic growth. By creating a safe environment for athletic activity, Special Olympics at UCLA provides a uniquely beneficial opportunity to impact this underserved population in the Los Angeles community. Our service, which manifests itself in the form of weekly athletic practices or tournaments, addresses a wide variety of issues affecting our athletes: lack of proper emotional support, unhealthy physical lifestyles, and a debilitating stigma.
