The Community Service Commission is excited to continue its Fellowship Program for the 2022 – 2023 school year! The CSC Fellowship will serve as a starting point for those who are looking to get involved with service and student government at UCLA. CSC is a part of the Undergraduate Student Association Council (USAC), which is the official voice of the undergraduate students at UCLA to the campus administration, faculty, and outside community. Elected by the undergraduate student body, the officers and commissioners of USAC work to enrich the undergraduate experience by presenting relevant issues and programs to the student body.

CSC is a student-run community service organization with 35 service projects and a volunteer network of over 2,000 students. This makes CSC the largest completely student-run, student-initiated community service organization in the nation! The commission aims to centralize the service efforts of the UCLA campus community through large-scale service programming, Alternative Breaks, collaborations, and advocacy.

As members of CSC, fellows will obtain direct experience in raising awareness on a variety of social issues, facilitating campus-wide and community-based programming, and learning how to logistically manage different types of community service student organizations, and make them better. The Fellowship, primarily geared toward new students at UCLA (both first-years and transfers), will be expanded this year, to enable fellows to contextualize UCLA’s role in service to the greater Los Angeles community. This year’s fellowship program will take place in 3 stages (one for each quarter), Orientation, Immersion, and Impact.

ORIENTATION – Quarter One will be dedicated to orientation, training, fellow/staff bonding, education around ethical service, CSC projects, social justice, and our individual role in service and against forms of systemic oppression that create social inequity. Fellows will also have the opportunity to learn more about social justice issues they care about through self-directed research projects and share their passion with the fellowship program.

IMMERSION – Quarter Two will be the quarter of immersion, where Fellows will be matched with CSC committees based on their interests and future goals at UCLA and beyond. This quarter, fellows will shadow CSC committees, where they will have the opportunity to gain valuable professional development and leadership skills while learning more about the inner workings of the Community Service Commission.

IMPACT – Quarter Three will be dedicated to making a permanent impact on CSC Staff. Fellows will work together to figure out how to improve CSC based on their experience shadowing in Winter Quarter and the knowledge they have gained throughout the academic year. They will also organize, plan, and execute their own direct service experience using the network and resources of CSC.
